A nautical masculine birthday card

I used the 3flowers challenge number 48, in which Marianela from the blog “Lovely Scrap by Marianela”, challenges us to use canvas or fabric, as an excuse to make a nautical birthday card for my husband. His birthday is in exactly seven days…

I wanted to make a nautical card (we live in a village by the sea and my husband loves to fish) with a lot of texture and some volume and I really like the result. For the background I used a panel of watercolor that I inked with a bit of “Gathered twigs” Distress Ink. On top of that, I glued three strips of distressed canvas (I pulled out two threads on each side) inked with the same Distress ink as well as with D’ylusions’ “Calypso Teal” ink spray and some drops of “Vintage pink” Glimmer mist for a slight shimmer.

I silver embossed a piece of cardstock to cut out the anchor with a Die-namics die from the “Let’s get nautical set” and used a white cotton cord to simulate a rope (hahaha, I really should have distressed it a bit…it looks brand new). My first idea was to write something with the “rope”, but after a couple of failed experiments, I decided to use it as a mere embellishment.

I cut the lifesaver using another die from the set, also out of canvas and inked it with “Antique linen” Distress Ink. The red pieces are red cardstock…

…I used the same cardstock to make one of the banners and to stamp and emboss the sentiment “Happy Birthday” from a set of clear stamps by “Con Sal y Pimienta”. For the other banner I used watercolor paper, a Sizzix die and a stamp from a beautiful set by Lora Bailora.

I wanted to add a last “masculine” touch so I went with three screw brads that I attached under the sentiment banners. The last step was to adhere the panel to the cardbase, also watercolor paper, with 3D double-sided tape and that’s it. I hope you liked it. See you soon!
