Swaying Santa card

Interactive Christmas card with dancing Santa for Spotlight Day 4 of the MFT October Release.

For the last Spotlight Day showing products from the MFT October Release I’m sharing another interactive Christmas card. This one features a fun swaying Santa from the Nicest on the List stamp set.

I didn’t film today’s card but you’ll get an idea of the smooth movement in the animated gif above. I’ve made a couple cards with similar mechanisms before, which you can check out HERE and HERE (for this one I even filmed a video tutorial) but my swaying Santa card is definitely the simplest of them all.

OK, now that you’ve seen it in action, let me explain how I created this card…

Tutorial for interactive Christmas card with swaying Santa

I started by partially stamping Santa’s legs on my panel, cut with the two largest dies from the Stitched Rounded Arch STAX Die-namics out of Smooth White and Wild Cherry card stock. Separately, I stamped, colored and fussy cut Santa’s torso. I could have used the coordinating die, but I would still have had to mask and trim the legs, so this was quicker and easier. To make Santa’s hat less fragile I added some Glossy Accents to the back of it.

Next, I used a 1″ circle as a guide to cut a half circle with my craft knife, just above the legs. I also punched a little hole about 1/4″ above Santa’s crotch. To the right of the picture you can see the 3 1/2″ long pull tab cut with the second largest die from the Spin & Slide Channels Die-namics. To make it nice and sturdy, I layered two of them with liquid glue.

Next, I inserted the pull tab in the slot, centered it and marked it with a pencil so that I could punch a hole for the brad. Once it was linked to the panel, I added a couple of foam squares to the upper part of it.

Finally, I added foam tape to the back of the panel and adhered it to my A2 card base covered with a patterned paper from the Colorful Christmas Text Paper Pad. I just love the red+white+blue combo, don’t you?

To finish my card, I added a little sentiment banner cut out a piece of the before-mentioned patterned paper, with one of the dies from the Itty Bitty Strips Die-namics. I also stamped a couple of arrows from the Interactive Labels set, underneath it.

As a last touch I added a couple of matching enamel stars. Thanks for stopping by!  I hope that you enjoyed my little tutorial… speaking of, did you see yesterday’s video on the MFT YouTube channel? Also, please visit the MFT Blog for more projects with today’s featured products.
